Nik's Poem

My heart lies bare, the tears wrung out
You're gone! Not here! No where about!

Your body lies so still.....so cold,
I touch your hair, your face, your throat
No life here, my sweet boys left
And I am totally bereft.

If I could take your place I would
lock me in that box of wood.
Not you, my sweet boy
My heart, my love
If I could take your place I would

"Nik get up" young Dante cries
his protest watched by red-rimmed eyes.

How could this be? It's so surreal!
I hear your laugh, and feel your love
the comfort of your mighty hug

Yet you lie in a box of wood,
the cover's closing!
NO! No!
Not yet, no it never should

If I could take your place I would
lock me in that box of wood.
Not you, my sweet boy
My heart, my love
If I could take your place I would

I'd rise you up, let you taste of life
Find love, grow old, and have a wife

The gods have thoughts we know not of
They've taken you so far above
Were you too tender for this world?
Too caring? That would be absurd!

Or is it I need lessons learned?
of loss, of death, of things unheard

Yet you lay in that box of wood
 My son, my sweet Boy
 my heart,  my love,
Could I have taken your place I would
